Stotesbury Cup on the Schuylkill Posted on May 15th
The annual Stotesbury Cup Regatta is scheduled for tomorrow and Saturday on the Schuylkill, and this year’s event is expected to feature 4,890 athletes, not including alternates, and a record 860 boats.
The regatta, in its 82d year, is billed as the world’s oldest and largest high school rowing competition.
Teams from 180 schools from across North America are expected to converge along Kelly Drive and compete in 28 championship races on Saturday.
Qualifying time trials are scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. tomorrow. Semifinals are set for late tomorrow afternoon and early Saturday morning, beginning at 8. The finals will begin Saturday at 1 p.m.
Bishop Eustace won last year’s girls’ senior eight championship. Thomas Jefferson (Va.) won the boys’ senior eight. Father Judge won the boys’ senior four, and Peddie School won the girls’ senior four.
