S. Jersey Girls: Burris helps own cause with RBI as Haddonfield prevails Posted on May 16th




















Devin Burris came out on top in a pitchers’ duel by delivering the key hit, doubling home Erika Pacholski in the bottom of the eighth inning, as host Haddonfield battled back to edge Haddon Heights, 4-3, yesterday in Colonial Conference softball.

Burris and her counterpart, Bobbie Padgett, went the distance in a game that saw Heights carry a 3-2 lead into the bottom of the seventh.

In another Colonial clash, Cara Gilbert handcuffed host Paulsboro, allowing three hits and three walks in pitching Gateway to a 12-0 victory. Peggy Nichole singled twice, knocked in three runs, and stole four bases for the Gators.

Cape-Atlantic. Megan Magee struck out nine in tossing a two-hit shutout, and Frances Schaeffer, Holy Spirit’s first batter in the game, hit a home run to start the host Spartans on their way to an 11-1 romp over Our Lady of Mercy.

Maria Isgro belted a two-run homer and Katie Williams contributed three hits, three runs and two RBIs as Absegami swamped host Lower Cape May, 12-1.

Olympic. Lindsey Sampolsky’s grand slam in the seventh inning allowed Triton to put away host Cherry Hill West, 6-0, keeping the Mustangs atop the Patriot Division. Erika Drayton had a bases-empty blast in support of Britney Yocum, who fanned 10 in tossing a two-hitter.

Bernadette Tenuto batted 4 for 4, scored three runs, and knocked in three for host Paul VI, which banged out 14 hits in routing Seneca, 12-3. Katie Koff, Jacki Harrington and Holly Schell combined for seven hits, five RBIs and five runs scored for the Eagles.

Tri-County. Ashley Hansen of Schalick opened the game with a bang, picking up her 100th hit on a lead-off home run, and went on to bat 3 for 4 with three runs scored as the Cougars cruised to a 7-2 triumph at Salem.

Gloucester clinched at least a share of the Classic Division crown by battering host Pitman, 12-1. Taylor Chain limited the Panthers to two hits, while Jackie Leafey went 5 for 5 and drove in four runs for the Lions.

Williamstown can do no worse than finish tied atop the Royal Division, after the Braves dumped host Deptford, 8-0. Rachael Matreale struck out a dozen batters while yielding two hits and three walks, and Christen Klutz contributed a pair of RBIs.

Burlington County. Kelly Garganio struck out 15 and scored the tying run in the bottom of the seventh inning, and Carlie Maple singled in Jackie Giambrone in the eighth to complete host Florence’s 3-2 come-from-behind win over Northern Burlington.

Vocational Tournament. Nakaya Johnson drove in three runs with three hits and scored twice, and Jasmine James batted 3 for 4 and scored three times to send Westampton Tech past Sussex Tech, 9-4, in a semifinal.

Nonleague. Stacey Robertshaw limited Lenape to one hit - a sixth-inning single - while batting 4 for 4 with two RBIs in Rancocas Valley’s 8-1 home win.

Pinch-runner Gina Rios scored the eventual game-winning run on a single by Kelsey Caregnato in the third inning, and Jess Goeller scattered four singles in leading host Buena past Glassboro, 2-1.

Brooke Boyd combined with reliever Megan Craft on a no-hitter, and Macy Cutshaw doubled twice and scored three runs as Burlington City leveled host Lindenwold, 14-0.

Sarah Crowley carried a shutout into the seventh inning and Amanda Edmondson chipped in two hits and scored twice, helping Haddon Township claim a 6-2 win at Cherry Hill East.

Lacrosse

Katie Hamilton and Cora Delfini each had a hat trick for New Egypt, which held on to defeat host Moorestown Friends, 12-8.
